While I have yet to see cigarette-smoking beret-wearers (or, for that matter, Kolaches) at the BohemeBistro, the Bohemian Poetry Slam is a pretty good time. Traditionally (well, for the 5 months I've gone to it) there are three rounds. The first two rounds anyone who signed up goes on stage and reads some poetry they have written, with some simple rules: no more than three minutes, no props, and only things you have written. Judges give scores, and crowd feedback (positive) is encouraged. The last round the top N people go and get some interesting prizes.
There is usually a featured poet, who goes between the three rounds. They're usually pretty good, and you'll typically want to bring some extra money to buy a book or whatnot from them.
First tuesday of each month. There isn't any real admission, but there is a collection jar with a suggestion of $3-5 to help pay for gas for the featured poet. Since the BohemeBistro doesn't charge a cover and lets the Slam use the place for free, ordering something from them is appreciated.
